In this week’s news stories, we’ll be looking at why the stoical Spanish seem to be coping with the current economic crisis, how Spain’s love affair with ham means the country keeps over 26m pigs and why local libraries are experiencing a huge increase in popularity.

This week’s recipe will tell you how simple it is to make alioli, that popular starter for lunch or dinner in almost every restaurant in Spain.

My Spanish news stories this week tell how another group of migrants have been rescued from an inflatable toy boat after trying to cross the Strait of Gibraltar, the Enlgish internet site warning about thieves in Barcelona, Air Nostrum crews get their trousers back, Spanish jobless claims soar as the holiday season ends and winemaker Baron de Ley will miss its sales target as consumption drops due to the economic crisis.

I’ll be telling you about the Spanish researchers who think they have discovered a magnetic invisibility cloak, I’ll be reporting on the last bullfight in the Catalunia region and telling you how the Moors laid the foundation for the present national health service.
