Fried goat’s cheese balls with honey
Ingredients
75g plain flour
1 egg, lightly beaten
75g breadcrumbs
12 balls (about 299g) of goat’s cheese or a 200g chunk of goat’s cheese cut into 2.5cm cubes
750ml vegetable or sunflower oil
2-3 tbs runny honey
Method
1. Put the flour, egg and breadcrumbs into 3 separate bowls and line them up in order. Dust the goat’s cheese balls or cubes in the flour, dip them in the beaten egg, then roll them in the breadcrumbs. Set aside and refrigerate until your are ready to cook.
2. Heat the oil in a large heavy-based saucepan to 190C or until a small cube of bread turns golden in 30 secs. Cook the balls or cubes for 3-4 mins. or until golden brown and the cheese is oozing on the centre. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen roll.
3. Transfer to a serving plate, drizzle over the honey and serve immediately with cocktail sticks.
